Change of plans

Yesterday was suppose to be a Dr appt. shopping etc. But a morning call from the Dr's saying they needed to reschedule changed all that.

I decided to turn it into a sew day for me! woo-hoo!

Here are my 16 completed Metro Medallion Blocks.Of course, I'm going to make it bigger! 

Why would I ever just follow the plan and be happy that I'm ahead of the schedule?

The blocks are big 13 x 16, so this layout

 (4 x 4) makes it 52 x 64. 

If I add one more row each way (5 x 5) it will be 65 x 80.  

I have the pieces for 9 more blocks cut and I am going to add a small triangle shape to the corners of each block to make a diamond where the blocks come together. This was an option added to the QAL after it started and it really adds to the design.  

I've also been slowly sewing the blocks for my twister jack  pattern. As you see below right now he has a splitting headache ~ackk did I just say that?? 

yep! I did.  ha!

As soon as I get the top together, (maybe today) it's coming down as I have another signature quilt project started...I'm using this pattern and a layer cake of 

Chateau Rouge and I need the design wall space for that.

And I'm super excited that I finally decided to put my Aster Manor flimsy on HQ.  It's 86 x 98 and a block-a-day top. I'm going to quilt my all-over feathers in the center and do the borders separately. The back is ready too. I have a little note pinned to it saying I finished the top in Sept 2010 and I prepped the back in Aug. 2011!  

  I'm going to load it today.  OH MY Gosh binding?? I don't have anything written about making the binding...

Life is good.

Tonight I sewed on the final curved borders on my quilt top.

I'm hoping tomorrow to start piecing the backing from all the leftover chunks of fabric I have and a couple blocks that didn't make it into the front.

After taking this down, I started organizing all the fabrics I got on the Shop Hop last week.  There was stuff piled everywhere. Once I got things under control, I pulled out my Christmas BOM blocks from the guild.  Our show is the end of Oct. and the ladies who organized the BOM are hoping we get our tops done and entered in the show as a separate display.  I sorta got tired of working on them so this is all I have.

I had to dig through my scraps and found a couple 3.5 inch strips that I pieced to get the last  few plain blocks with the background! whew.

This is going to sit for a day or two.

One of the patterns I bought on Shop Hop was Happy Jack.

I started cutting out 3.5 inch squares for it.

The two plates on the top are already blanket stitched to the foundation.

The one on the bottom I just finished sewing together and it's just pinned to the foundation block.  

I'm loving making these...

Last week Libby and I took a little trip to this quilt shop.  Libby needed to pick up a quilt kit she had requested and I wanted to get the additional 6 yards of grey fabric for the Dresden backgrounds.  I was so relieved that they still had enough yardage left.  Since usually I would be a day late and have to scramble to try to find it elsewhere. Whew!

H-o-p-e-f-u-l-l-y I will get it washed, pressed and the rest of the blocks cut out tomorrow.

I finally got going on quilting one of Libby's quilts.  I have the SID done around the applique blocks and the feather border is finished.

It's real pretty.

While we were at Peace by Piece, we also got the primitive pinwheels twister pattern.  I finished sewing the top (11x12) yesterday. 

 At the top of the picture you can see all my dresden blades piled up. It's a very sophisticated organizational process.
I just keep moving them out of the way from the cutting table to the sewing table, to the ironing board....I will probably continue until I drop them and get ticked off and take the time to put them somewhere safe.  I don't want to put them away and get distracted for a month or two and start a new project...
what ME? do something like THAT....Nooooo!

I don't think I'll be making it that large but we'll see.  I just love the blue background.  

Finally

I finished my little shamrock twister.

I think it's so cute.  

I've started the blanket stitching on my Winter Scraps that I posted about last.

But I'm reading the Hunger Games trilogy.  I read the first book and got over 1/2 way through the 2nd book yesterday...uh yes that's about all I did.  

what I've been up to...

Winter Scraps...just need to stitch the appliques down. I already quilted the background.   The colors are a little washed out.  

On my one design wall is 

Shamrock Twister. It is together but not quite done. 

It measures about 9 inches and I think I will add another small border around it to get it a little bigger.

Underneath that is a bunny embroidery w/hsq that I'm making into a pillow.  

It's quilted too but I still have to make the envelope backing.  I'm going to bind it like a quilt.  It's 20 inches square..I think.  It's the project for my guild's March Newbies class but I have to work that day so I thought I'd just get it done now.

The 9-Patch quilt is a memory quilt I agreed to make for someone.  

I finished a couple baby quilts for Libby.

They're both with panels and are just so dang cute.

Oh and I'm in the 12 step program for Pinterest addiction.

yes that's an Itty bitty twister uses 2.5 in squares to start finish 1 inch.

Now before I started on the baby hearts, I insisted that I finish piecing the Scrappy Happy blocks.

I really don't like this quilt.  Just keeping it honest.

Perhaps I should re-name it "Barfy Happy"...

Oh I smile every time I look at this!  Twenty years in the making. Yessiree it is hanging up and will stay up for a while.  It's not the greatest  1st rug every made but it's mine and I LOVE it.  His beard was hooked with roving which I was nervous about but it was really easy to do and looks great.

I have two ideas in the back of my little mind for my next hooking project but I really want to get a lap frame for future rugs.
